Product CareHow do I wash my cloth diapers? What detergent should I use on my cloth diapers? How do I remove stains from my cloth diapers? How do I wash my cloth menstrual pads? Washing your cloth diapers Washing your cloth diapers is easy! We recomment washing your diapers several times prior to the first use to achieve maximum absorbancy and remove chemicals. Store your diapers in a dry pail. On wash day, place your diapers in the machine and run them through a cold rinse cycle with no detergent. You may choose to add 1/2 cup of baking soda to remove odors. Add a small amount of detergent (1-2 tablespoons) and run the diapers through a hot wash. If the diapers don't smell like detergent, you're done! If you can smell the detergent, run the diapers through an additional rinse cycle (hot) and use less detergent next time. Dry your diapers on low or hang them to dry. Do not use fabric softeners. What detergent should I use on my cloth diapers and menstrual pads? Always use a Free and Clear detergent on cloth diapers and menstrual pads. Avoid products with whitening agents or brighteners such as bleach. Stains Stains are a natural part of the cloth diapering process, but if they bother you, there are a few methods to remove them. The first and easiest is using the sun. Placing cloth diapers in the sun will break down the proteins in the stain. Adding baking soda to when you rinse and wash your cloth diapers can also be effective in removing stains. How do I wash my cloth menstrual pads? If you are cloth diapering, you may choose to store them in a wet bag and wash them with your cloth diapers. Otherwise, simply soak them in cold water prior to placing them in the washing machine or run them through a cold rinse cycle in the machine. You can add tea tree oil or detergent at this point but it is entirely optional. Next wash your cloth pads in warm water in the machine (this can be done with your towels if you don't want to make an extra load.) You may also wash them by hand. We recomment using a Free and Clear detergent and running them through an additional rinse cycle to remove detergent build-up. Finally, hang them to dry or dry them on low in the dryer. They may shrink slightly in the dryer but it makes them nice and soft. We do not recommend using fabric softener on cloth menstrual pads. How do I wash my DivaCup? To clean your DivaCup, wash it with a mild (unscented) soap under warm water. You may prefer to use DivaWash and water instead of soap. Pat dry and place in your cloth bag until your next cycle. You may also boil it for a few minutes. Rubbing alcohol may be used to remove any discoloration that occurs. |
